    Percutaneous laser disc decompression (PLDD) is a procedure in which herniated intervertebral discs are treated by reduction of intradiscal pressure through laser energy. This is introduced by a needle inserted into the nucleus pulposus under local anesthesia and fluoroscopic monitoring. The small volume of nucleus vaporized results in a sharp fall of intradiscal pressure, with consequent migration of the herniation away from the nerve root. First proposed by the author in 1984, this concept was validated by 2 years of in vitro experiments.


    Hernia nucleus pulposus (HNP) and pinched nerve in old age(Spinal stenosis)with this method of shrinking bone pads(Discs)using laser light injected on bone pads that arebulging. "This method is done without any incisions at all.


    This PLDD procedure is very simple because it does not require anesthesia, no need for fasting, and patients can go home immediately or one day care after observation in 1-2 hours and recovery faster


    Operated with 400um/600um fiber optic, Chearylas 1470nm laser system is a versatile, multifunctional
    medical diode laser machine ideal for minimal invasive PLDD.


    The Cherylas 1470nm, with larger water absorption properties appears to have an effect on the entire nucleus pulposus and not only in surrounding tissue of laser fiber (carbonization zone). During PLDD, disc volume is minimally decreased, however, disc pressure can be significantly lowered. When using laser for disc decompression, a small amount of nucleus pulposus evaporates.
